What If Judas Was a Kenyan, How Much Will he be Paid to Betray Jesus Currently

30 silver coins, was it worth that time? What if it was today, how much would have been paid? Is it worth betraying someone? Let's get into it and look at the value of 30 silver coins in Kenyan shillings today.

Silver Coins

Kenyan shilling coins

About 2000 years ago, A day like today is when Jesus Christ rose from the dead. This is after he was betrayed by a close person, one of his disciples. The story is recorded in the book of Mathew 26:15 where Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus in exchange for 30 silver coins.

Though we are not sure about the exact coin which was used to pay Judas at that time, scholars argue that there is a possibility of four coins being used. The Roman Denarii, The Tyrian shekel, The Antiochian stater coin and The plotemaic coin.

The Antiochian Stater Coin

The Roman Denarii

According to the scholars, only one of these had a possibility of being used, the "Tyrian Shekel" This is because it contains the highest amount of silver (94%)  and hence is used mostly in temple payments. Therefore there is a high possibility that this is the coin used to pay Judas.

The Tyrian shekel

Each of these coins weighs 14 grams hence 30 of them weigh 420 grams

Considering the current price of silver, one gram sells at 0.89USD thus 30 of them will be (420*0.89) = 373.80USD. Converting this to Kenyan shillings is worth Ksh. 49,938.68. So suppose it's today Judas Iscariot is betraying Jesus, He would have betrayed for Ksh. 49,938.68. Is it worth betraying somebody? Leave your comment below. Thanks for reading.
